Former champion University of Manila trounced San Sebastian College-Cavite, 66-48, while AMA Computer University outsteadied University of Makati, 69-58, to keep their unbeaten records in the 9th National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) junior basketball tournament at the UM gym in Gastambide, Manila.
Vincent Garcia scattered 20 points for the Bang Tumapat-mentored Hawklets, who posted their third straight win in Group B in a tie with idle New Era University.
The Junior Titans drew double-digit scores from five mainstays to beat the Baby Herons and keep the solo lead in Group A with three straight wins.
Raymark Matias topscored with 16 points for the Junior Titans, followed by Jonathan Ibarra with 15, Ken Ballesteros with 14 and John Arcea and Julius Laurel with 10 apiece.
In the other junior game New Era downed Centro Escolar Univeristy, 73-65, for its third straight win.
Louie Cleofas and Dave Torregoza combined for 43 points for the Junior Hunters of coach Jhun Echavez.
In th ewomen’s division, defending champion AMA outclassed St Clare College-Caloocan, 90-68, and SSC-C nipped UMak, 46-43.
Camille Sambile fired 16 points, and Ajie Sarmiento and last year’s Most Valuable Player Vee Palada contributed 14 points apiece for the Lady Titans, who registered their second win in as many matches.
Angela Isla, Camille De Guia and Rinafe Garcia combined for 40 points for the Lady Baycats, who posted their first win in two outings.
