DEREK Ramsay is one of ABS-CBN’s fair haired boys these days. He has three TV shows, “The Wedding,” “Nasaan Ka Maruja,” and the nurserye show with Judy Ann Santos, and two new films, “And I Love You So” with Bea Alonzo and the Metro filmfest entry, “I Love You, Goodbye” with real life squeeze Angelica Panganiban. He’s also the only matinee idol who appears with top athletes headed by Manny Pacquiao in the new San Miguel TV commercial. What can he say about his being so hot nowadays?
“Siyempre, I’m thankful,” he says. “But it has its downside. Wala na akong tulog. Nagkasakit ako at naospital sa sobrang pagod. But I’m not complaining. Mas mabuti na ito kaysa jobless. I’m very excited with the way my career is going.”
How’s it working with Bea in “And I Love You So”? “It’s great. She’s so good, even when we worked sa ‘Maging Sino Ka Man, Book 2’, I saw agad na magaling talaga siya. Star Cinema had a private viewing and they texted me how great the movie is, directed by Lauren Dyogi. Masayang katrabaho si Bea, even before sa ‘One More Chance’ where I had a short role. Kaya lang mahilig ako mangulit at mabilis siyang mapikon, lalo na about her weight. Sabi ko, when she’s no longer affected sa mga pang-aasar ko, dun lang ako titigil. Effective naman kasi she’s lost a lot of weight and is definitely sexier now as you’ll see in ‘And I Love You So’.”
What is the movie all about? “I don’t want to make kuwento in detail kasi spoiler ‘yun. Basta it’s about love, dapat hindi ka dapat matakot to fall in love again and again.”
Was he ever afraid to fall in love? “I’m just careful, especially when you use those three words: I love you. You don’t just say it to anyone. You should mean it wholeheartedly. Right now, I’m in love and I say it all the time.”
And he says it to Angelica? “Yes! All the time.”
Is it true he’s taking her abroad next year? “Yes, at the World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa in March. I’m a big football fan and I want her to experience the whole atmosphere of the World Cup with me, cheering together.”
He’s really so generous to Angel and even gave her a mini-Cooper car as gift on her birthday. “She mentioned kasi that she loves the mini-Cooper two years ago. So now that we’re on our third year, I thought it’d be the best gift for her as it’s her favorite car. Tuwang-tuwa naman siya.”
