DETAINED coup plotter Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim and the entire Magdalo leadership yesterday bade goodbye to former President Corazon C. Aquino, hailing her as the “mother of democracy†whose legacy should be preserved by every freedom-loving Filipinos.
Speaking from his detention cell at Camp Aguinaldo, Lim said the late President had been, and shall always be, the guiding light of Philippine democracy.
“Out of the pit of a dictatorship she has brought us back into the community of free nations — leading it through a difficult period in its history, nurturing it with her love and warmth, and defending its freedoms to the very last breath of her mortal life,†Lim said.
Then part of the Young Officers Union (YOU), Lim led several coup attempts against Mrs. Aquino but now look back with remorse for trying to unseat a leader with sterling qualities.
Lim is now languishing at the Camp Aguinaldo jail for the failed February 2006 coup against President Macapagal-Arroyo.
